Securing vacant buildings is never straightforward, and Viewpoint in Basingstoke was a perfect example of just how challenging – and important – proper vacant property security really is.

Asbestos was widely used in building materials because it was strong, cheap and fire-resistant. The problem is that when it’s disturbed or damaged, it releases microscopic fibres into the air.

Fire doors aren’t just normal doors with special paint. They are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke and give people time to get out safely. But they only work properly when every part of the door set is correct and that includes the lock and handles.

This wasn’t just about fresh paint, the goal was to restore and improve the appearance while respecting the character of the estate the practice sits within.
